CHAS, Merdeka Generation, Pioneer Generation, & Medisave

What is CHAS?

The Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) enables Singapore Citizens, including Pioneer Generation (PG) and Merdeka Generation (MG) cardholders, to receive subsidies for medical and/or dental care* at participating General Practitioner (GP) and dental clinics near their homes. 

*Singapore Citizens with the Public Assistance (PA) card need not apply as they are already eligible for to receive full CHAS subsidies by presenting their card. 

Eligibility Criteria: 
All Singapore Citizens are eligible for CHAS. The CHAS benefits will be tiered according to household monthly income per person or the Annual Value (AV) of the home, as indicated in the table below:

Merdeka Generation

In honour of and to thank Singapore’s Merdeka Generation for building a sturdy foundation for the nation, the government has launched a Merdeka Generation (MG) Package, where eligible Singapore citizen are entitled to subsidies at participating dental clinics.

Who is eligible?

You must be a Singapore Citizen who meet the following criteria:

  • Born between 1 January 1950 to 31 December 1959, and
  • Became a Singapore citizen on or before 31 December 1996.

Or

  • Were born on or before 31 December 1949, and
  • Became a Singapore citizen on or before 31 December 1996, and
  • Do not receive the Pioneer Generation Package.

Pioneer Generation

In recognition of the contributions of Singapore’s Pioneer Generation in nation-building, the government has launched a Pioneer Generation (PG) Package, where they are entitled to subsidies at participating dental clinics under CHAS.  

Who is eligible? 
 
You must be a Singapore Citizen who meet the following criteria: 

  1. Aged 16 and above in 1965 (I.e Born on or before 31 December 1949 / Aged 65 and above in 2014) 
  1. Obtained citizenship on or before 31 December 1986. 

If the above criteria is met, a notification letter would have been sent to you in June 2014. The Pioneer Generation Card is valid for life.

CHAS

How much subsidies will I receive? 

Depending on the card you hold (CHAS Blue, Orange, Merdeka Generation or Pioneer Generation), this will determine the amount of subsidy you will be entitled to. The table below summarizes the subsidies you may receive depending on your card’s subsidy tier. However, do note that CHAS dental subsidies will not be applicable for CHAS Green cardholders.

I already have my CHAS card, what should I do to enjoy the subsidies when I seek treatment? 
To receive CHAS/Pioneer Generation/Merdeka Generation subsidies for your dental treatment, please inform our receptionist and present your card and NRIC upon registration at any of our Advanced Dental clinics.

How much do I need to pay if I hold the Public Assistance Card?

 

Singapore Citizens who are on Public Assistance (PA) scheme need not pay out of their own pocket and will receive full subsidies for treatments listed on the subsidy table above. To receive subsidies at Advanced Dental clinics, please inform our receptionist and produce your PA card and NRIC upon registration.

Medisave

If you are a citizen or permanent resident of Singapore, you may be able to claim a portion of your surgical expenses from your Medisave account. 

Medisave can be used to pay for the following surgical procedures: 

1. Surgical Removal of Teeth (e.g. Wisdom tooth) 
2. Dental Implant Surgery 
3. Bone Grafting 
4. Jaw Surgery 

Please note that the use of Medisave is subject to Medisave withdrawal limits. 

Can I use my Medisave account to pay for a family member’s dental treatment? 
Yes, you can use your own Medisave account to cover your immediate* family member’s dental bill.  

Can I use my family member’s Medisave to pay for my dental treatment? 
Yes, you can use your immediate* family member’s Medisave account to cover your dental bills too. 

*Immediate family members refer to your spouse, children, parents and grandparents
